The Uttar Pradesh government will test all travellers coming from Delhi for coronavirus, said the state’s chief secretary RK Tiwari.
People coming from Delhi to UP via flight, buses and trains are likely to be tested, according to Tiwari’s statement. However, it is an advisory since no such order has been given by the UP government yet. Tiwari’s statement comes days after Noida authorities started random Covid testing at borders and metro stations.
Tiwari has mentioned the same in a press release, but no official communication has not come directly from the state government yet.
According to news agency PTI, Tiwari is concerned about the increasing number of infections in UP districts bordering Delhi.
Highlighting the high number of cases, Tiwari said Delhi is facing another Covid-19 wave and is worried that it could increase the number of cases in cities like Noida and Greater Noida.
As per the UP chief secretary, the state government could also consider restrictions on the number of people at wedding ceremonies and other social programmes if cases rise. Tiwari, however, added that any decision in this regard will depend on the prevailing situation.
“Districts in western UP like Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad have restricted social gatherings to 100. Necessary steps will be taken as per the prevailing situation in various places to stop the spread of the infection,” he told the news agency.
