‘Don’t worry I will get over it and win the matches for MI’: Suryakumar Yadav to Rohit Sharma after India snub

In-form Mumbai Indians’ number three Suryakumar Yadav not being picked for Australia tour has been a topic of debate for a while now. Former greats of the game, cricket pundits and fans have expressed their shock and disappointment at the same time. Someone like Scott Styris has even offered Suryakumar to shift his base from New Zealand and represent the Black Caps.

Suryakumar Yadav was in sublime form during the IPL 2020 and like always everyone was anticipating an India call-up finally for the right-hand batsman but the same old story got repeated. The 30-year-old did not find place in any of the 3 squads for 3-month long tour of Australia.

Days after being ignored Suryakumar Yadav played a handsome unbeaten knock of 79 versus Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and won the match single-handedly for the 5-time champions. His now famous ‘I am there (Main hu na)’ celebration won hearts of millions on that day. Twitter has erupted singing praises for the Mumbai batsman. Teammates Kieron Pollard after the match had said that Suryakumar Yadav must be “deeply hurt” after the India snub.

Now, Rohit Sharma has revealed about the interaction with Suryakumar Yadav, moments after the squads were announced.

Rohit Sharma has said that he could feel that Surya was dejected, adding that he hismself came and talked to him. Rohit said that Suryakumar walked to him and said, “Don’t worry I will get over it and win the matches for MI.”

“We were sitting in our team room and I could feel he was dejected. But I didn’t go and speak to him. It was he who came up and said, ‘Don’t worry I will get over it and win the matches for MI’.

“And when he said that I also realised he is heading in the right direction not only in terms of IPL but in his overall career. There are a lot of India games and his time will come. If you ask me, my philosophy is mind over matter and that’s what works for me,” Rohit Sharma told PTI.

Words of wisdom from Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav in an exclusive interview with Sports Tak had talked about his interaction with Rohit Sharma after being left out of the India squad. Rohit had suggested Surya to let his bat do the talking, while Sachin Tendulkar had texted him and suggested him to carry his good form.

“Rohit Sharma was training with me. After completing the training he came and asked me if I am disappointed. I told him that I was disappointed because as I was expecting myself to be picked for my good performances.

“Rohit Sharma told that these ups and downs are part of life and suggested me to talk with my bat when I get the “bat in my hand. Sachin Tendulkar also texted me, asking me to keep talking with my bat,” Suryakumar Yadav had said.
